The Kremlin has denied media reports claiming that Moscow and Washington have reached an agreement over the future of Syrian regime President Bashar Al-Assad, Sputnik reported yesterday.
London-based Arabic language Al-Hayat newspaper quoted a UN Security Council diplomat as saying that US Secretary of State John Kerry had informed several Arab countries that his country and Russia have reached an understanding regarding the political process in Syria, including Al-Assad’s transfer to another country.
The source added: “The timing and context of that in the political process remains unclear to everyone at the moment.”
Remarking on the report, Russian spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters: “Al-Hayat published information which does not correspond to reality.”
“Russia is advantageously different from other nations because it does not discuss the issue of the self-determination of third countries either through diplomatic or other channels,” he added.
