Libyan MPs fail to vote on unity government for the 8th time

April 5, 2016 at 9:31 am

The Tobruk-based House of Representatives failed for the eighth time on Monday to endorse the national unity government led by Prime Minister Fayez Sarraj. This was due to the lack of a quorum, Saltanah Massoud MP told Anadolu news agency. The government needs the approval of 40 members with a minimum attendance of 120 members out of 200.

Parliamentary Speaker Saleh Quwaider used a televised address to call on members of parliament to attend the voting sessions. He also called on the unity government to appear before MPs and present the bio-data of its cabinet members.

Sarraj arrived last week with his cabinet ministers, travelling from Tunisia to Tripoli, where his government will sit and carry out its duties.
