A Syrian working in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, has been sentenced to eight years in jail for spying for the Syrian regime, AlKhaleejOnline reported yesterday.
The barber, who was found guilty of collecting information about the Syrian opposition and passing it to the intelligence services of the Syrian regime, will be deported after serving his term.
The Saudi Public Prosecution accused the barber of preparing, storing and publishing materials which “destabilise” public order as he posted videos and images on social media showing the “violence” of the Syrian regime.
In addition, the Public Prosecution accused him of posting video clips that abuse and distort the image of Saudi Arabia, its rulers and its people.
The court also held the 15th hearing for the spies accused of spying for Iran.
One of the defendants requested that the hearing be adjourned in order to reply to the accusations, and it was adjourned to May.
The other defendant requested more time to review his replies and give more details. Another hearing was also scheduled for May.
