Netanyahu: Decline in Palestinian attacks in West Bank cities

April 11, 2016 at 11:14 am

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that there has recently been a significant decline in the number of Palestinian attacks taking place in West Bank cities.

During the Israeli cabinet’s weekly meeting, Netanyahu attributed the decline in operations to government policies, which he described as “responsible and firm”.

Netanyahu praised the performance of the army, the general security service and the police, noting the joint efforts of the security services thwarted a lot of “terrorist acts”. But he also said the situation could still change for the worse.

During its meeting on Sunday, the government discussed the improvement of measures adopted to ensure personal security in regions that have Arab communities.

The Israeli prime minister said that in the coming years, a number of police stations will be established and 2,600 policemen will be recruited.

Also on Sunday, a senior official in the security apparatus presented the Israeli government with a detailed report containing numbers of operations that took place in the West Bank in the last period.

According to the report, 270 operations or attempts have taken place since early October. They have resulted in the killing of 29 people, four of whom are foreign nationals, while 290 were injured with varying degrees of severity.
