The secretary general of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation has called for Palestinian reconciliation, with the main factions offering some concessions to each other and heading for a national unity government, QudsNet reported on Friday. This way, said Iyad Bin Amin Madani, the Palestinians will be stronger, as will their negotiating positions with the Israelis.
Speaking during the OIC summit in Istanbul, Madani praised Saudi Arabia and other countries for their support for the issues affecting the Muslim world. He congratulated Turkey on its presidency of the new term of the organisation and thanked the outgoing holder of the post, Egypt, for its efforts. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi did not attend the summit.
The Saudi official reiterated that the Islamic world hopes that the OIC will continue its efforts to bring Muslims together and strengthen solidarity among its member states in order to be stronger in the face of many challenges. We all hope, he said, that the organisation will adopt a strategic ten-year plan with clear agendas and measurable objectives.
