Leader of the Egyptian Popular Current and former Presidential candidate Hamdeen Sabahi has filed a lawsuit against Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and Prime Minister Sherif Ismail demanding the annulment of the agreement regarding two Red Sea islands.
Al-Sisi has been criticised at home and abroad for agreeing to transfer two Red Sea islands to Saudi Arabia.
Lawyer Essam al-Islambouli, who filed the lawsuit on behalf of Sabahi, said the lawsuit file includes documents that prove Egypt’s ownership of Tiran and Sanafir, the two islands.
“The islands are part of our national right, as evidenced by a number of documents. The constitution of this country does not allow these national rights to be violated,” Sabahi wrote in his complaint, parts of which he posted on his Facebook page.
Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said: “Egypt did not occupy the two islands but entered them on a Saudi request. History and documents of both countries have not shown any disagreement on the Saudi identity of both islands. But some are trying to fish in troubled waters.”
Thousands of protesters went out on Friday 15th April to protest the agreement, Images below by APAimages.
