Israeli army carries out military drills on Syrian front

The Israeli army carried out military drills on Wednesday on the Syrian front simulating field confrontations and missile attacks, Anadolu reported.

Spokesman of the Israeli Army Avichay Adraee said in a written press release: “Large numbers of special forces, ground forces and air forces were called for and they dealt with different scenarios, including field confrontations and protecting the internal front from missiles and live fire.”

Adraee added: “We affirm that the drills were pre-planned as part of the annual training plan for 2016. At the end of the drills, the army had completed its field preparation and made sure of its readiness on all fronts.”

During the last few months, several missiles have landed in the occupied Golan Heights as a result of the ongoing Syrian conflict. Sometimes, the Israeli army has responded with artillery fire.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stressed early this week that the Golan Heights are part of Israel and would remain in Israel’s hands forever. He called for the world to recognise this.

Israel occupied the Golan Heights in 1967 and annexed it in 1981.
