A US security committee completed a three-day inspection of Cairo International Airport’s security measures for airplanes, passengers, meals and cargo, the head of security at Egypt Air said yesterday.

Tarek Zaki said the US security delegation, which included four experts from the US Transportation Security Administration of the US Department of Homeland Security, reviewed the security measures applied on Egypt Air flight 985, which flies from Cairo to New York, including travel procedures at departure halls, passengers’ entry into the terminal and check-in.

It also monitored the securing and examining of cargo in the catering area until the items are loaded onto the plane.

Zaki pointed out that he would be holding a meeting in the coming hours with the US security delegation, in the presence of a number of security officials at the airport, to review key points and gaps that may have been detected during the visit before a final report is sent to Egyptian authorities.
