Israel has ‘unprecedented’ intelligence cooperation with Egypt and Jordan

The Israel Defence Forces have “unprecedented” levels of intelligence cooperation with Egypt and Jordan, Quds Press reported on Sunday. This was revealed by Israel’s Deputy Chief of Staff Yair Golan in an interview with the Times of Israel.

“There is a strong feeling in the region,” said Golan, “that we have to put the old hostilities aside and concentrate on common interests, and work together to treat the jihadi threat.”

Noting that the issue is related to trilateral cooperation among the intelligence services in Tel Aviv, Cairo and Amman, he expressed his hope that this will lead to full normalisation in the relationship between the Arab nations and Israel.

“I do not describe this as a kind of reconciliation among the nations,” the senior officer explained, “but I hope that it is a starting point. I am very hopeful in this regard.”

The governments of Egypt and Jordan, along with the Palestine Liberation Organisation, are the three Arab bodies which have officially signed peace agreements with Israel. However, many other Arab countries maintain secret or informal relations with the Zionist state.
