Turkey to use locally made drones in its war on terror

Chief Commander of the Turkish Armed Forces, General Hulusi Akar, has announced that Turkey is to start using locally made drones in its war on terror, AlKhaleejOnline reported yesterday.

In a report delivered in a Ministerial Council meeting, headed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, last week, Akar said the drones performed “very well” during recent tests, noting that they would soon take part in army operations.

He also said that tests proved that the Turkish drones are “superior” to American made ones due to their ability to operation more accurately in bad weather and manoeuvring capabilities.

In December, Turkey announced that long-range anti-tank missiles were put on both wings of the drones, each weighing some 37.5 kilogrammes. In tests, the missiles hit targets eight kilometres away from an altitude of 16,000 feet.
