Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi’s recent speech during which he talked about peace with Israel and urged the renewal of Israeli-Palestinian peace talks was reportedly coordinated with the Israeli prime minister and the Israeli opposition leader, Al-Resalah newspaper reported on Wednesday.
Shelly Yachimovich, former leader of Israel’s Labor party, is one of the Labour officials who has accused Opposition Leader Issac Herzog and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of coordinating with Al-Sisi regarding his speech.
Some sources are saying the speech is linked to the coalition talks between Israel’s Zionist Union and Likud.
Israel’s Channel 10 reported that Netanyahu and Herzog were planning a joint trip to Cairo if the latter joined the coalition.
Sources close to Netanyahu and Herzog have said that Al-Sisi didn’t coordinate his speech with them, and that they didn’t know of it in advance.
An Israeli news website, which is close to the Israeli intelligence, reported that Al-Sisi is the Arab leader who is the most popular among the Israeli community due to his harsh crackdown on Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood.
