The Lebanese interior ministry is ready to “conduct parliamentary elections on time”, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed yesterday reported Minister Nohad El Machnouk saying.
He noted that reaching a deal on the elections is a “complicated” process, adding that he believes Lebanon should “choose a president first, then the elections should be carried out on time.” He noted that this is his own opinion and it is a subject for a parliament discussion.
During a tour around Sidon during the municipal elections, El Machnouk met with a number of security officials in the south.
Regarding problems which may arise during the elections, El Machnouk said: “We avoided all the mistakes that took place in the first and second stages,” noting that problems in the second stages had fewer problems than the first stage; therefore, the third stage would be smoother still.
He announced the postponement of elections in Kafr Seer in Al-Nabatiyeh upon the request of local factions and activists due to the withdrawal of a large number of nominees.
