Coalition will take ‘all measures necessary’ to defend Saudi Arabia if Houthis repeat truce violation

The Arab coalition leadership in Yemen announced yesterday that it intercepted and destroyed a missile fired from Yemeni territory towards Saudi Arabia. In a statement published by the Saudi Press Agency, the coalition warned that it would “reconsider the political feasibility of its self-discipline which it has committed to since the truce in Yemen last month, and will take all necessary measures to defend Saudi Arabia.”

This is the second missile that the coalition has intercepted since the beginning of the truce in Yemen at midnight on 10 April. The first was fired on 9 May.

“The Royal Saudi Air Defence forces intercepted and destroyed a missile fired from Yemen towards Saudi Arabia,” the statement explained. No damage was caused. “Furthermore, the Air Defence forces also destroyed the missile launching pad, the location of which was located inside Yemeni territory.”

The coalition leadership also noted that the Houthi militias and forces loyal to ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh intend to break the truce by firing missiles. “They want to abort the international community’s efforts to make the discussions in Kuwait a success,” said the Saudi-led alliance. “This also reflects the militias’ inability to interact positively and respond to the efforts being made by the alliance and the international community to end the bloodshed of our neighbouring Yemeni nation.”
