Israel reduces fishing zone off Gaza coast

May 31, 2016 at 12:32 pm

Israeli occupation authorities yesterday announced that they reduced the limit of the fishing zone off the Gaza coast, Palestinian sources reported.

Head of Gaza’s Syndicate of Fishermen Nizar Ayyash confirmed that the Israeli occupation authorities had decided to reduce the fishing zone from nine nautical miles to six starting from 5 June.

He added: “This will negatively affect the work of the fishermen and will reduce the amount of the catch.” He noted that hundreds of fishermen feeding thousands of families are affected.

Israel had announced the expansion of the fishing zone from six miles to nine in April along a section of the coast.
