British Airways will resume flights to Sharm El-Sheikh on 15 September pending approval from the British government, Russia’s Sputnik news agency reported on Monday.
The regional director of British Airways services Sherif Barsoum said: “The company announced the middle of September as a date to resume flights to Sharm El-Sheikh,” noting that it is awaiting approval from the British government.
The UK was amongst a number of countries to suspend flights to the Egyptian resort city at the end of October after a Russian plane crashed killing 224 travellers.
Barsoum said he expects the British government to approve the plans after insurance rates were increased by 80 per cent in Egyptian airports.
The Egyptian tourism industry has suffered greatly due to the instability that hit the country.
