Palestinians spring into water this Ramadan

June 20, 2016 at 11:12 am

Palestinian Nawwaf Al-Souri plunges into Ein As-Sultan spring in the occupied West Bank city of Jericho to escape the heat during Ramadan, the Anadolu Agency reported.

Fifty-five-year-old Al-Souri is one of dozens of Palestinians visiting Ein As-Sultan every day during the month of fasting.

Located in the northern of Jericho, 258 metres below sea level, the area experiences the hottest summer weather in summer and the warmest winters.

Al-Souri said: “It is impossible to stay at home during hot days. We go to the spring in order to swim and spend day time in a nice place.”

Dozens of children swim and dive in the spring water as it is “a free place for everyone.”

While playing in the water with his children, 28-year-old Mohamed Shweeki said the temperature was 43C  yesterday.

“When the electricity is not strong enough to operate the air conditioner, it is impossible to stay at home,” he said

Residents of Jericho have been warned to stay away from prolonged exposure to the sun as the temperature reaches six degrees higher than the average for the area.
