Head of Israeli opposition rejects Israel-Turkey deal

Head of Israeli opposition Issac Herzog expressed on Monday his rejection of the Israel-Turkey deal to regain diplomatic ties, Voice of Israel reported.

“I cannot understand the Israeli agreement to compensate those who assaulted the Israeli soldiers,” Herzog told the Israeli radio station.

Israel and Turkey recently ended a period of tension that started in 2010 when Israeli commandos attacked a Turkish ship that was carrying aid to Gaza and killed ten of those on the ship.

The deal included $21m in compensation to the families of the Turkish activists killed and an apology for the attack in return for exchanging ambassadors, allowing Turkish aid to Gaza through an Israeli port and other minor issues.
