The Action Group for Palestinians of Syria (AGPS) has revealed that a number of Palestinian factions have asked Iran and Hezbollah to intervene with the Syrian regime to secure the release of more than 1,000 Palestinian prisoners held in its jails.
The group quoted in a statement on Sunday unnamed Palestinian sources as saying that Iran and Hezbollah have refused to even discuss the names of the detainees or find out their whereabouts.
According to the group, Hezbollah and a number of Palestinian factions in Damascus have strong ties with the Syrian regime and can assist in releasing the Palestinian prisoners, but they refuse to intervene in order not to disrupt their relationship with the Syrian regime.
The group says there are some 1,086 Palestinian refugees detained in Syrian regime prisons, while 445 refugees were killed under torture.
The group said in a statement that Syrian security forces have arrested Palestinian refugee Amjad Kamel Fahd Hussein, 35, in Damascus while on his way to hospital and Bassam Abu Khaled Abu Shilleh, 42, in Daraa southern Syria.
