PA calls for international community to push Israel to lift Hebron siege

The Palestinian Authority (PA) called on Sunday for the international community and all international bodies to immediately push Israel to lift the siege it has been imposing on the West Bank district of Hebron, agencies reported.

It also called for Israel to stop the detention and torture of unarmed Palestinian civilians in different cities and neighbourhoods of Hebron.

Official PA Spokesman Yousef al-Mahmoud said: “What Israeli is doing amounts to a collective punishment and this is part of the official policy against the Palestinians. This is a violation of all international conventions and agreements.”

The Israeli authorities have been closing the southern and northern entrances of Hebron during Eid, after the death of two Israelis in attacks reportedly carried out by Palestinians.

Israeli forces raided on Sunday morning Sair neighbourhood in the east of Hebron and stormed several houses. Local sources in the Palestinian neighbourhood reported severe clashes between Palestinian youths and the Israeli forces. No casualties were reported.
