Kuwait helped thwart attacks in three Gulf states

Kuwaiti intelligence services have contributed to thwarting terrorist operations in three Gulf states, a security source revealed.

Kuwait’s Al-Qabas newspaper yesterday quoted an unnamed Kuwaiti security source as saying that “investigations with some of the defendants have led to the dismantling of sleeper cells in more than one Gulf country.”

According to the official, Kuwait has exchanged the names and information about potential suspects with links to Daesh with Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain.

Kuwaiti security forces have penetrated a “terrorist operations room” and obtained what could only be described as a “precious treasure of information” that led to revealing the names of major terrorist leaders in a number of Gulf states, the security official explained.

On 4 July, Kuwait said it had foiled three planned Daesh attacks in the country, including a plot to blow up a Shia mosque, after launching raids that resulted in the arrest of militants.

“Kuwaiti security agencies have carried out three pre-emptive operations in Kuwait and abroad that led to the derailing of a number of Daesh plots targeting Kuwait and arresting several Daesh members,” an interior ministry statement said.
