Saudi authorities have arrested the Turkish military attaché to Kuwait in Dammam airport upon the request of the Turkish government, Al-Arabiya news channel reported late on Sunday.

An unnamed Saudi source said the diplomat was arrested while on his way to Dusseldorf, Germany.

Earlier on Sunday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he would be “cleansing” all state institutions following the failed coup attempt.
