Iran’s nuclear deal with the international community has had no bearing on regular civilians, the country’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said yesterday.
“We signed the nuclear agreement in order to get the sanctions lifted, but this has not been the case,” state-run media quoted Khamenei as saying.
“The nuclear deal, as an experience, once again proved the pointlessness of negotiating with the Americans, and the need not to trust America’s promises,” Khamenei said.
On 14 July 2015, Iran signed an agreement with the world powers to end Western economic sanctions targeting several sectors, including the country’s oil exports and banking ties.
In return Iran agreed to allow international inspections of its nuclear sites, and to reduce its supply of lowly enriched uranium.
However, many Western banks were cautious to resume relations with Iran amid legal uncertainty; this is partly because some sanctions remain in place in the United States.
Many have blamed United States since Washington still has not given international banks the green light to do business with Iran.
