The construction of a port in the Gaza Strip would pose a security threat to Israel, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.
In an interview, Netanyahu claimed that Egypt refuses to open the Rafah crossing because it is run by Hamas.
He admitted that the economic and humanitarian conditions in Gaza are very bad, alleging that this forced him to permit essential items into the Strip for the sake of improving the humanitarian situation.
Netanyahu said that he decided to provide several facilities to Gaza within a year from now, most notably to open of the Erez crossing in order to let food into the Strip, in addition to the Karam Abu Salem crossing.
