Tunisia’s Ennahda forms committee to negotiate new government

August 3, 2016 at 10:20 am

Tunisia’s Ennahda movement said on Monday that it has formed a committee headed by Secretary General Zied Ladhari to negotiate the membership of the new cabinet. According to a Facebook post by the largest parliamentary bloc, “The head of Ennahda movement, Rachid Ghannouchi, has headed a meeting of the Executive Office to discuss the new government line-up talks, which begin on Tuesday evening.”

Although no further details of the sub-committee’s membership were provided, the move comes after President Beji Caid Essebsi ordered Prime Minister Habib Essid’s government to continue its functions until the formation of a new government. Parliament passed a vote of no confidence in the prime minister on Saturday.
