Jordan Valley farmers to sue Israel after recurring fires

August 8, 2016 at 2:23 pm

The Jordan Valley Farmers Union (JVFU) said it will file lawsuits against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli Ambassador in Amman Daniel Nevo at local and international courts for the recurring fires that erupt on the Israeli-Jordanian border and damage agricultural land.

Union President Adnan Khaddam told Quds Press that the losses inflicted by the Israeli fire on Jordanian farms during the past decade are estimated at tens of millions of dollars, stressing that Israel deliberately begins the fires each summer.

He said the association will communicate with Arab lawyers from Israel to coordinate efforts and file the lawsuit in Israeli courts.

“A majority of the fires that occurred in the past years was due to light bombs fired by the Israeli army under security pretexts to control the borders,” Khaddam explained.
