Egypt’s April 6 movement apologises for not supporting Rabaa victims

The April 6 Youth Movement yesterday apologised for not supporting Egyptian protesters who were burnt to death in Rabaa Square in 2013, noting it has been against “bloodshed” for a long time, the Safa news agency reported.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the movement said: “On the third anniversary of the Rabaa and Al-Nahda massacres, 14 August 2013, right is still absent, justice is still dumb, blood is still tainted on walls, consciences are still asleep and the killer is still free.”

The movement added: “The damns will continue tracing those who took part, supported, justified, clapped, chanted and authorised the killing due to differences.”

Meanwhile, the movement reiterated that it rejects “bloodshed” and stands “forcefully” against “violations of dignity, freedoms and humanity.”

“If we committed a mistake as we remained silent and were unable to do anything else to stop the crimes, we apologise for this. We apologise for every martyr and prisoner. We apologise for every family who lost a member or a relative. Your right will be regained sooner or later.”

Meanwhile, three years after the massacre, Egyptian religious institutions issued a statement condemning the deaths.
