Unemployment in Tunisia reaches 15.6%

The unemployment rate in Tunisia during the second quarter of 2016 has increased to 15.6 per cent compared with 15.4 per cent during the first quarter of the year, the Director General of the country’s National Institute of Statistics Hedi Saidi revealed yesterday.

Saidi told reporters that currently there are some 629,600 people who are unemployed compared with 622,700 during the first quarter of this year.

He pointed out that the unemployment rate among females is 23.5 per cent compared to 12.4 per cent amongst males.

Unemployment among university graduates dropped to 30.5 per cent during the second quarter of 2016, compared to 31.0 per cent during the first quarter, bringing the number of unemployed graduates to 236,800.
