Moroccan minister accuses 'entities' of seeking to control government sectors

A Moroccan minister said that some entities in the country see to control a number of government sectors for the sake of protecting their own interests only.

Minister of Housing and Urganisation Nabil Benabdallah did not name those entities to which he directed accusations during a press conference held by Morocco’s left-wing Party of Progress and Socialism

The party held the press conference to present the achievements of its ministers in the current cabinet. The conference was attended by Morocco’s Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane, who is also the leader of the Islamist-leaning Justice and Development Party.

Benabdallah said that some parties want to control the political scene with the help of some influential figures in the state so as to protect their own interests and extend their dominance over a number of state sectors.

“There were attempts to end this government and make it fail, but what happened is the opposite: Its popularity increased and it reformed a number of sectors that past governments had failed in,” he said.

On the sidelines of the press conference, the Moroccan minister stated that his party refused all attempts to make the current government fail: “The Party of Progress and Socialism has worked on making this government succeed through daring to say “No” to some entities that had wanted to take the country backwards with regard to the democratic experience,” he said.

He added that his party said “No” to some of its allies that did not agree to participate in this governmental experience, and to those who withdrew from the government half through its terms, in reference to the Independence Party, which left the government.
