The Israeli army said its planes attacked targets in Syria this morning, for the second time in five days, after stray mortars crossed into the occupied Golan Heights
No injuries were reported in the attacks.
“The IDF holds the Syrian regime responsible for what happens in its territory and will not tolerate any attempt to harm Israel’s sovereignty and the security of its citizens,” the IDF statement said.
Military sources said the mortar attack was likely a result of internal Syrian fighting.
Israeli planes struck Syrian on Sunday after a number of shells fell on the Israeli occupied side of the Golan Heights.
Israel captured the Golan Heights from Syria in the 1967 Middle East war and annexed in 1981 in a move not recognised by the international community.
