Former Israeli president Shimon Peres suffers stroke

Shimon Peres, the former Israeli president, has been hospitalised after suffering a stroke, his office has said.

The 93-year-old is expected to undergo a CT scan after being rushed to hospital. Israeli TV stations reported Peres was suffering bleeding in the brain. His condition was described as serious.

Following the news, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wrote on Facebook:  “Shimon, we love you and the entire nation wishes you get well.”

Peres severed as prime minister of Israel for three terms. He also held the posts of foreign minister and finance minister.
