Tunisia’s state of emergency has today been extended for another month, according to a statement by the Presidency of the Republic.
The extension, ordered by President Beji Caid Essebsi with approval from head of government Youssef Chahed and the President of the Assembly of People’s Representatives (ARP) Mohamed Ennaceur, is the fifth since the state of emergency came into effect on 24 November 2015 following a bombing against a presidential guard bus.
The state of emergency was first extended on 22 December 2015 for a period of two months and then again for three months from 23 March 2016, before being extended by a further three months from 21 July 2016.
