Members of the Egyptian army are up in arms about their pay in spite of policies introduced by President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi which allow them to establish companies, improve their pensions and give them greater control over the country’s economy.
Sources said junior members of the military are dissatisfied with the fact that the policies introduce mainly benefit senior officials.
Strategic expert General Yosry Kandil refuted the claims saying the Egyptian armed forces are based on equality and justice across all military levels. He refuted the existence of tensions within the army, noting that it looks after all its members equally.
He added that the armed forces never differentiate between leaders and officers. He added that the army took action during the crisis to save the country and not for personal gains. There are attempts to improve conditions for soldiers without adding an extra burden on the government’s budget.
