Erdogan: Islamic world should 'unite'

October 3, 2016 at 3:58 am

Speaking to Rotana, a Saudi-based television channel, Turkey’s president Recip Tayep has called for unity in the Muslim world and warned against attacks from outside:

Turkey and Saudi Arabia are being targeted. We see that all pitfalls and plans are pointed against the Islamic world

The president also commented on the situation in Syria and Iraq and Turkey’s ongoing campaign against Daesh. He confirmed that Turkey seeks no long-term territorial gains in Syria – in spite of a major push by Turkish and US forces known as ‘oporation Euphrates Shield’ – but instead he is motivated by an “Islamic and emotional duty” to care for refugees and to fight against the Islamist extremist group.

He also commented that Mosul – which is currently a Daesh Stronghold – should be liberated and that only Sunnis should remain,

After Mosul will be rescued from Daesh, only Sunni Arabs, Turkmen and Sunni Kurds should remain there
