A Syrian migrant suspected of planning a bomb attack on a Berlin airport has committed suicide in policy custody, Spiegel Online reported on Wednesday, citing judicial sources.
The news website said Jaber Albakr had been under round-the-clock surveillance due to an acute risk of suicide and hunger strike. It was not yet clear how he had killed himself, Spiegel said.
Last week, hundreds of police including specialist commandos combed a residential area in Chemnitz looking for Albakr. The police deployment followed a tip-off from the domestic intelligence service, and resulted in the police finding several hundred grams of explosives when searching his apartment.
In late July, Daesh claimed responsibility for attacks on a train near Wuerzburg and at a music festival in Ansbach which wounded 20 people.
