Turkey-Gulf summit to discuss boosting cooperation

Saudi Arabia is hosting a summit between Turkey and the Gulf States on Thursday. Foreign ministers will meet to discuss the strengthening of cooperation as well as the current political and security issues in the region, Anadolu reported on Tuesday. The official Saudi news agency WAS said that Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir will chair the summit.

According to the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Abdul-Latif Al-Zayani, the meeting is being held in the context of “strategic dialogue” between Turkey and the GCC member countries. Relations have developed positively, recently.

Most of the Gulf States were among the first countries to condemn the failed coup attempt on 15 July and announce their support for Turkey’s elected government. The GCC members stressed the importance of stability for the Turkish Republic and the welfare and property of the Turkish people, while citing their mutual historical links.
