Russian Federation Council speaker Valentina Matvienko announced that Moscow is interested in restoring direct air travel with Egypt.
Matvienko added that the resumption of flights between the countries may occur at the end of 2016 or early 2017.
During her meeting with Speaker of the Egyptian Parliament Ali Abdel Alem on Thursday, Matvienko said: “The resumption of direct air travel between the two countries not only interests the Egyptian side, but the Russian side as well.”
She reiterated that the lack of direct flights between the two countries creates obstacles and hindrances to business as well as to other activities.
Matvienko mentioned that in order for flights to resume between the two counties, they must resolve the problem of ensuring the electronic system allowing airport staff to enter closed areas.
She added that the air traffic authorities are currently buying the required equipment.
