The largest Sunni bloc in the Iraqi parliament today called on Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi to hand over security of Fallujah to members of the security services who are originally from the city.

The National Forces Alliance’s demand comes a day after two car bomb attacks in the city centre killed two people including one civilian and wounded 11 more.

The alliance explained in a statement issued today that members of the security services who are originally from the city must control the security situation in Fallujah because they know the area and the people and can identify any outsiders.

The alliance said: “The presence of armed factions, including the popular crowd and other armed groups, allows the terrorists to sneak into the city under the pretext of belonging to one faction or another.”

A member of the Anbar provincial council, Taha Abdul Ghani said the council supports granting the local police a wider area in Fallujah to control.
