Egypt refuses to release April 6 co-founder

January 4, 2017 at 5:55 pm

The Egyptian interior ministry has refused to release the co-founder of the April 6 Youth Movement, Ahmad Maher, claiming he is to be investigated for other charges, sources close to Maher said.

According to the sources, Maher is being detained pending investigation on charges of calling to organise a sit-in in front of the house of a former interior minister wearing nothing but underwear.

On Saturday, Maher finished a three-year sentence on charges of breaking the Egyptian protest law.

The case dates back to 29 March 2013 when the April 6 Youth Movement organised a sit-in in front of the house of a former minister during which the protesters raised women’s underwear.
