Iran’s top Quran reciter accused of raping children

Iran’s most well-known Quran reciter Saeed Toosi has been accused of raping dozens of children, social media activists have said.

More and more families are now unwilling to send their children to learn Quran from Toosi, who is known for his close ties to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, Arabiya.net reported. Local news sites are however attempting to cover up the scandal.

One of his alleged victims said Toosi’s close ties to the rulers of Iran are saving him from being arrested and punished for his crimes. The victim said there is a recorded telephone call in which Toosi is heard threatening to expose more than 100 figures in the country if he is convicted.

Iranian judicial authorities had promised to follow-up on the case however it has been more than six months and they have not disclosed any information on the matter.

In October, Voice of America published a detailed report supported by written and audio evidence and witnesses claiming that Toosi had raped tens of children who were under 14 years old.
