The Iraqi government has officially apologised to a Sudanese man who was tortured by state police in Mosul and offered him the Iraqi nationality.
Sudan’s Al-Shorouk television reported yesterday that Iraqi Interior Minister, Qasim Al-Araji, apologised to Musa Al-Bashir on behalf of the Iraqi government after he was tortured by members of the police in Mosul.
“Interior Minister Qasim Al-Araji arrived Saturday in the city of Mosul to visit the Sudanese citizen and apologised on behalf of the government,” Al-Shorouq quoted Iraqi Interior Minister, Wahab Al-Tai, saying.
Sudan’s Ambassador to Iraq, Mohamed Omar Moussa, had demanded the perpetrators be prosecuted and brought to trial.
A video which circulated online last week showed Iraqi forces torturing a Sudanese man as he left hospital in Mosul. The officials accused him of being a member of Daesh.
