70,000 Algerians apply for French citizenship

Tens of thousands of Algerian nationals have applied for the French citizenship in the last year and a half, local media reported.

As many as 70,000 Algerians applied for the French citizenship by submitting various documents of proof at the Centre of Algerian Veterans in the French Army in the past 18 months, Algeria Echorouk news site reported.

The agency said the Algerians applied either for themselves or for their children and grandchildren by presenting a “Veteran in the French army” card or what is known as the certificate of the nation’s recognition.

Unemployment in Algeria stood at 11.70 per cent in the third quarter of 2017 with the youth increasing looking for ways to emigrate in the hopes of finding jobs and a better quality of life.
