Egyptian lawyer files complaint against local Turkish school

November 13, 2018 at 3:31 am

Egyptian lawyer Samir Sabry yesterday filed a complaint to the country’s Attorney General and the Supreme State Security Prosecution against a Turkish school in the capital Cairo.

“Five years ago, the Turkish government began to penetrate the private schools business in Egypt,” Sabry said, adding that between 2009 and 2012, the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, started establishing several international schools in the Egyptian governorates of Cairo, Alexandria and Beni Suef.

“In September 2011, Erdogan’s wife, Emine Erdogan, paid a visit to one of the Turkish schools in Egypt. In 2012, another Turkish school was established in Beni Suef province, offering a completely different curriculum than the local government one,” the Egyptian lawyer’s complaint read.

“Teachers at those Turkish schools are non-Arabic speakers who are affiliated to the Turkish preacher Muhammed Fethullah Gülen, who is one of the most important advisers to the Turkish state,” Sabry noted.

Turkey to Egypt: Do not exceed your authority’ by threatening us

He pointed out that one of the Turkish schools – which he was complaining against – had been supporting the Muslim Brotherhood group, explaining that the school’s administration has been carrying out anti-Egyptian government meetings and hosting a number of staff members at the Qatari embassy.

“The school students recently shared photos with the Muslim Brotherhood’s Rabaa hand sign on social media,” the pro-state lawyer warned.

Turley has always been known of supporting the Brotherhood group in Egypt since the first freely-elected Egyptian president, Mohamed Morsi, took office in 2012. Its support increased extensively after the 2013 military coup which deposed Morsi and left thousands killed and injured in a massacre that was carried out by the state army.
