The Electricity Distribution Company in Gaza (GEDCo) said yesterday that Israeli occupation authorities continue to obstruct the maintenance of electricity grids within Israel which supply the Gaza Strip, a statement said.
Israel is preventing the entry of fuel bought by Qatar which is used to run the only electricity plant in the besieged enclave, GEDCo added.
According to its statement, the shortage of fuel and lack of electricity supplying Gaza through the Israeli grids will cause a severe shortage of electricity and this would affect every aspect of life in the besieged Strip, including the healthcare sector.
Israel stopped maintenance of power lines leading to Gaza when it started its bombing campaign against the Strip on 10 May, GEDCo said.
It added that Gaza suffers from a severe shortage of maintenance equipment, pointing out that this is affecting the company’s work to repair and replace electricity networks damaged during the Israeli offensive across the Gaza Strip.
