Greece announced that 250 additional guards would be deployed at the country’s land border with Turkey, as thousands of asylum-seekers tried to enter the country last year, Athens News Agency reports.
According to the report, Greece’s police minister said 250 additional guards would be deployed at the country’s land border with Turkey to protect its borders from a refugee influx.
Another 800 extra border guard personnel will also be hired to staff airports and regions close to the border, Greece’s Interior Ministry said.
Yesterday, Turkish coast guards rescued 75 irregular migrants who were pushed back by the Greek authorities into Turkish territorial waters, off the south-western coastal city of Mugla.
