Rescue efforts are underway to save a five-year-old Moroccan child who has fallen down a well on Tuesday.
The minor, named Rayan, was reportedly accompanying his father who was repairing the well in a village near the Chefchaouen province when he fell to a depth of 32 metres. Cameras lowered into the hole show that the boy is conscious though he is showing signs of head injuries.
Morocco’s Civil Protection Directorate has been heading an operation to rescue the child since Tuesday afternoon.
Bulldozers have been ordered to the location in an effort to widen the hole, which rescuers have found too small and which has hampered efforts to release Rayan.
The well is thought to be 60 metres deep.
The hashtag “Save Rayan” has been trending in both Arabic and English.
