French Interior Minister Eric Dupond-Moretti has put a member of the Political Bureau of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine under house arrest in the city of Marseille. Maryam Abu Daqqa was arrested as she was heading to Toulouse and will be under house arrest until she is deported.
According to the interior ministry in Paris, Abu Daqqa threatens “public order in the context of severe tensions related to the war between Israel and Hamas.”

AFP explained that the deportation order will not be applied immediately because it is necessary to arrange for Abu Daqqa to leave France. As a result, she will remain under house arrest in Bouches-du-Rhone for a period of 45 days, with a commitment to remain in the building in which she lives in Marseille from 10pm until 7am, and go to the police station in the city centre daily at 12:30pm.
Abu Daqqa obtained a 50-day visa to visit France from the French consulate in Jerusalem in August. She was scheduled to participate in various conferences.
Dupond-Moretti announced on Saturday that the French security forces had arrested 65 people, including 10 foreigners, who are alleged to have supported Hamas and its Al-Aqsa Flood attack on Israel on 7 October. He added that 189 “anti-Semitic acts” had been recorded since last Saturday in addition to 2,449 reports to the Pharos platform related to justifying terrorism or anti-Semitic statements on the internet.
The detainees are nearly all being held in an administrative detention centre. Two are in prison.
