The head of the Israeli army’s Military Intelligence Directorate, Aharon Haliva, has acknowledged responsibility for failing to give warning before the 7 October infiltration of Israeli towns by the Palestinian resistance, the Times of Israel reported yesterday.

“We failed in our most important mission, and as the head of the Military Intelligence Directorate, I bear full responsibility for the failure,” the newspaper quoted him as saying.

Earlier, the head of the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet), Ronen Bar, sent an official letter to the agency’s employees bearing responsibility for the events of 7 October.

“As the one who heads the organisation, the responsibility for this is mine,” Bar wrote according to the Israeli Channel 12.

On his part, former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said that current Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu bears responsibility for the failure to confront the Palestinian resistance.
