Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi yesterday received a bipartisan US congressional delegation in Cairo led by Senator Lindsey Graham. The agenda for their meeting included the latest developments in Israel’s war against the Palestinians in Gaza, an Egyptian official confirmed.
According to spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency Ahmed Fahmy, Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s firm rejection of civilians being targeted, collective punishment and the forced displacement of Palestinians from their land. He added the necessity of making serious efforts to stop the current escalation, and intensifying coordination between all parties.

The Egyptian president also stressed the importance of settling the Palestinian issue through a just and comprehensive solution that guarantees the Palestinian people their rights and the establishment of an independent state in accordance with international legitimacy and relevant resolutions.
The meeting included in-depth dialogue on many international and regional issues. The US delegation members were keen to hear Sisi’s views and assessments, especially with regard to the situation in Israel and the Gaza Strip. They advised the Egyptian leader about their visit to Israel.
The two sides agreed on the seriousness of the current situation, the necessity of working to prevent the expansion of the ongoing conflict, and the necessity of protecting civilians, preventing their targeting, and providing humanitarian and relief aid to the Gaza Strip. Moreover, it was agreed that it is necessary to revive the peace process in the region.
