Israeli attacks on Yemen harm regional security and undermine international efforts to end violence, Kuwait warned yesterday.
At least six people were killed and 83 others injured in Israeli air strikes on Hudaydah Port in western Yemen on Saturday, according to the Houthi-run Health Ministry.
Israel claimed responsibility for the attacks, saying it was a “direct response” to a drone attack launched by the Houthi group on Tel Aviv on Friday, which killed an Israeli and injured ten others.
The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry said it is following with “great concern” the impact of the “unprecedented” Israeli attacks on Yemen, the resulting deterioration of the security situation in the region and “the undermining of international efforts aimed at ending the cycle of violence.”
It underlined the need “to distance the region and its people from the dangers of violence and destruction” and called on the international community and the UN Security Council “to assume its responsibilities in ending all conflicts.”
Earlier on Sunday, the Saudi Foreign Ministry also said in a statement that it is following with “deep concern” the developments of the Israeli attacks on Hudaydah, warning that they “intensify current tension” in the region and harm the ongoing efforts to end the war on the Gaza Strip.
Saturday’s attack marked the first direct Israeli response to recent Houthi attacks.
American officials told private Israeli Channel 12 that Tel Aviv conducted the attack on Hudaydah independently, without any military involvement from Washington.
