Nine per cent of the Gaza Strip’s population was displaced in the past week alone due to Israeli evacuation orders, UN OCHA has said.

The UN office explained that 29,000 people were present in the area that the Israeli occupation army ordered to be evacuated yesterday in the southern area of Khan Yunis, noting that this was followed by other evacuation orders from Al-Bureij camp in central Gaza.

In a statement, OCHA said that “recurrent displacement is depriving civilians of dignified survival.”

The UN body pointed out that the UN humanitarian partners estimate that more than 190,000 Palestinians have been displaced this week from Khan Yunis and Deir Al-Balah since the evacuation order was issued last Monday. Hundreds more are still trapped in eastern Khan Yunis as the Israeli invasion of the area continues, it added.

The UN office confirmed that the recent evacuation orders and intense hostilities have affected relief operations and undermined efforts to provide essential assistance to civilians in Khan Yunis.

Last Monday, the Israeli occupation forces launched a new military operation east of Khan Yunis, months after withdrawing from the city following a large-scale attack that left a large number of martyrs and widespread destruction.
